Athanasios Kargatzidis fell in love with food and restaurants over twenty-five years ago.
He has been cooking, researching, and studying his way across the world ever since, which led him to open award winning BARON in Beirut, Lebanon
and later on COSTA FRIA in Ericeira, Portugal.
BARON was awarded Best Restaurant in Lebanon 2022 & 2023 by “The World’s 50 best Restaurants” and ranked #12 in the MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022, # 16 in the MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 & 2024
Often describing his food as ‘fusion cooking', Athanasios has been championing international flavours since stepping into kitchens, with food that holds flavour and texture, rather than tradition and provenance, as his central tenets.
